The mandatory World Cup post....
And so, the World Cup has come and gone. The saddest part about the whole thing is that with India & Pakistan's exit, any chances of having Indians and Pakistanis cheering for their teams here have also evaporated.
If there is one thing that I sorely miss in this country, it is the indescribable atmosphere that builds up before a major cricket match. Schools, Colleges, Offices, all fall victim to that nervous anticipation. It sweeps all those who come before it. Like it or hate it, but you cannot ignore it (even those so-called, self confessed "cricket haters"). If you have been one of those people who have "stuck their head in the sand" when these matches approach, I pity you. You have missed out on a spectacular experience.
The post-mortem of the dismal showing will have surely begun. A few hard decisions will have to be taken. One of these might be the dropping of Sachin Tendulkar. His form over the last few years has been patchy, with sparkling brilliance punctuated by large periods of mediocrity. If this seems too drastic a step, then we can begin by dropping him for crunch games. It is clear that he does not perform upto scratch in most of these games. This may provide the necessary tonic for him to aim to perform better in these games. Who do we replace him with? That's a great question, one which has no easy answers. As coach, Greg Chappell must leave. His experimentation may have had some method, but in the end, we can only see the madness. In essence, instead of building after 2003, we have gone slowly downhill, fooling no one but ourselves in the process. I would favor Steve Waugh for the position, but it is unclear whether he is open to coaching.

must say I have lost quite a bit of interest in Cricket over the last couple of years, and half my head was in the sand.
sack chappell, yuvraj for captain, dravid and ganguly to still play, uthappa to open in one days, drop sehwag and tendulkar(can play in tests), get kaif (Vice Captain) and pathan back in, drop harbhajan, get both the karthiks in, convince Moody to come coach us, if that doesnt work any half-decent foreign coach who doesnt get intimidated easily, an Indian one wouldnt work as he would be burdened with political pressure.
my moneys on the Lankans for this Cup
hmmm i think anyone from down under will be afraid to coach sub-continent teams frm now on...
Hmm...I agree with u as far as the coaching of Greg Chappell goes. His methods may be good in their own right, but they certainly dont seem to be working in our case. Again, with the Bob Woolmer incident and all, Steve Waugh may be just the thing we need. As for SRT, I had hoped for one last hurrah before he retired. Maybe, he needs a stint on the bench before he is back for that one last spark. But, what abt the skipper? Methinks Yuvraj may be the way to go.
yup, captain must be one of the youngsters. Yuvi seems the best bet. Anyo of the older guys would be a backward step.
You would favour Steve Waugh for anything, wouldn't you? And I notice how you've spelt 'favour'. Alas, one more lost to the dark side!
when in rome....
... visit the colosseum.
bad one, i know.
Firstly...Yuvraj isnt exactly a 'youngster' anymore!!..he is in mid twenties now and been playing for some yrs...he has enuf of eperience to bcome captain..more importantly he wud be around 29-30ish for the nxt WC..so yeah..i also feel it shud be Yuv...but u never know...the selectors may even do a Graeme Smith on us!!!..and Steve Waugh..hmmm..interesting!!..I wud prefer a Mark Taylor actually!!
The old colour scheme on your page was better.
chappell has been whinging for four years. time to go.
That was really funny..Vishy...
